In recent years intercountry adoption has been through a crisis characterized by a number of prospective parents for adoption well beyond the possibilities of adoption worldwide. By analyzing the historical, social and political factors behind this situation, and relying on contemporary international texts, the author proposes a new reading of international adoption and gives some clues as to its possible evolution.
